Energy Boosters for Taxing Times

Rose Report: Issue 36

Energy Boosters for Taxing TimesThere’s no doubt that the weeks leading up to Tax Day are a demanding time for accounting professionals. During this busy season, which typically begins in January and lasts until mid-April, many accountants work long hours and feel the pressure of work-related stress.

Regardless of your profession, it is likely that at some point in your career you have felt job-related stress. In fact, according to a 2013 survey by APA’s Center for Organizational Excellence , job-related stress is a serious problem. The survey also found that, “more than one-third of working Americans reported experiencing chronic work stress and just 36 percent said their organizations provide sufficient resources to help them manage that stress.”

At Rose Financial Solutions (RFS) our employees’ well-being and job satisfaction is a top priority. Recognizing that our employees work hard during the busy season, we’ve implemented an energy booster program to help prevent burnout. From a desk yoga session, to a painting class, to root beer pong and flip cup competitions, followed by a root beer float party, RFS provides our employees with activities that allow them to break away from their work, destress and have fun with fellow coworkers.

Taking a break during a busy work period may seem like an oxymoron, however, research shows that breaks can lead to more productivity. According to a Baylor University press release on the study, “Give Me a Better Break: Choosing Workday Break Activities to Maximize Resource Recovery,” Baylor researchers found that people who take “better breaks” experience better health and increased job satisfaction. The press release also stated that “employee surveys also showed that recovery of resources – energy, concentration and motivation – following a ‘better break’ led workers to experience less somatic symptoms, including headache, eyestrain and lower back pain after the break.”

It is important for organizations to realize the impact busy seasons have on their employees. Offering our employees the opportunity to take a break and enjoy our energy booster program is just one way RFS shows our employees how much we appreciate their hard work.
