Rose Report: Issue 29

Accountants Just Want to Have Fun

Rose Financial Services (RFS) knows the integral role our employees play in our clients’ and our company’s success. We depend on each other, operate as a team and grow together as a group. As a four-time finalist and winner of the Helios HR Apollo Awards—the leading awards program for recognizing employers in the Washington region that invest in employee development—RFS makes celebrating the contributions of staff members a priority.

At RFS, one day is just not enough to show our employees how much we value them—we devote an entire week. Since 2009, we’ve celebrated Employee Appreciation Week in the fall. The week is full of fun events and provides employees the opportunity to spend time together outside of a typical workday. Employees are also given awards for their dedication and contribution to the company.

Past Employee Appreciation Week activities have included breakfasts, lunches, bowling, playing video games on Xbox Kinect and watching movies in the conference rooms. The celebration even includes giveaways like RFS polo shirts and jackets. The week-long event culminates with a team building competition and a happy hour on Friday afternoon.

“To build excitement around Employee Appreciation Week, we plan different activities every year,” said Ted Rose, RFS’ president and CEO. “Adding an element of surprise not only engages employees, it also makes the week more memorable. For example, when celebrating RFS’ 20th anniversary in October 2014, we attended a Nationals game behind home plate at Nationals Park in Washington, DC.”

In addition to the giveaways, team building competition and happy hours, the celebration allows for members of the RFS team to interact with each other in fun and relaxed environments. This gives team members the chance to learn more about each other, which increases employee engagement and encourages camaraderie among colleagues. We’re proud to continue to organize Employee Appreciation Week every year to celebrate and recognize the people who help lead us to success.

This year’s celebration was held last week, complete with a sketch artist, pizza, popcorn and board games in the RFS offices.
